Day Six: First stop- Pisa and then.. Florence, Italy!!

The moment we crossed the Italian border there were yells of excitement. We were in Italy now! A whole new chapter.

First stop: Pisa.
It wasn't the prettiest nor was it the cleanest looking place, but it held something very historical and was not to be missed. The Leaning Tower of Pisa.
The second we got off the coach we were bombarded by black men shoving cheap sunglasses or fake prada bags. It was rather intimidating at first, but you quickly just got over it.

And there it was -the Leaning Tower of Pisa - however amidst a sea of tourists all flocking for the same thing. A typical photo beside it; you know the ones I mean - the leaning, the pushing, etc etc. We were all given the same task - take an 'original' photo. And wow was this difficult! So many pushy rude people taking your spot. But hey, Lauren and I made the most of the short time we had and took a few golden shots.

After getting the best shot we could under the conditions, we searched the markets alongside it for a postcard to add to our collection. We met the boys near where we were meeting the rest of the group and had a much deserved beer. And wow was that peroni goooood!

Next stop after Pisa - Florence!!! This was the part of the trip where Lauren and I had a mission: we had to find ourselves a leather bag. Just to say we had got it from the leather capital of course!
We arrived in beautiful Florence and immediately I fell in love with the overlooking view of the city:

And here was where we took the group photo! A truly gorgeous spot. Definitely frame-worthy..

After this we headed to our rather luxurious campsite to our group cabins. We were stuck with the two South African girls. Darn it. Nah they were very cool girls.

We dumped our luggage and headed to the Italian restaurant in central Florence. We passed some beautiful parts of the city along the way. Including the Italian sunset in the distance, and the Santa Croce.

Next was our first proper Tuscan meal experience. It was a rather cute restaurant.

We had such a huge dinner that night. It was just silly how much food we were given. Constantly.
We had a lovely entre of bread and dips etc. Then we had a plate of three different types of pasta; spag bol, pesto fettucine, and another delicious pasta I cannot remember the name of! This was the main meal... Or so I thought.

Looks rather substantial doesn't it? Well no, turns out it was the pre-main. We also had this;

Oh wait, AND meatballs - BEST EVER too. So yeah. We were all feeling rather bese after this. Washed down with a 2 litre bottle of red wine and then a shot of Limoncello - How Italian!

We had a rather funny incident as we were leaving the restaurant.... There was a stretcher kind of just chilling in the middle of the floor... didnt really cross our minds that it was intended to be used for someone who genuinely was injured.. Gavin (aka Hollywood) thought it would be funny to ahh.. 'play dead'.. So he did. The photo tells a thousand words really.

After being ushered angrily out of the restaurant, we walked on to the Red Garter, the karaoke pub. We got there and to our dismay, we didn't spot a single attractive Italian boy. Not good enough Florence. There was a group of older guys singing some random song I had never heard of in Italian.. so you can see the appeal quickly fading. After waiting a touch to long for a turn, we gave up and left. A few stayed behind to see what Florence nightlife had to offer, and the rest of us went back to the campsite for a few drinks at the bar. What a great day anyhow, just another day in Florence tomorrow...
